November 2016

1-7 November 2016

November started and so did the harvest. This week has been a gradual start and our work has begun with 6.30am to 6pm days Monday to Saturday. Canola is in full swing around the state and the farmers here are into their Barley which we have been receiving this week. Most of the farmers have been telling us how good their crops were so well and it was looking at being a great year until Mr Jack Frost came to visit.

30 November 2016

November started with our day and time consumed with the harvest and it ended with the same, though the daily load coming in has increased and so have our daily hours. We have enjoyed Alan and Kay and Kim and Carolyn visiting, parking up around the back and spending time with us.

With the expected bumper harvest before the frost, CBH hired more people than they actually required and that meant that we were over staffed by two people. As such, in order to help them keep the tonnes per man hour figure down we were taking turns to have a day off in addition to Sunday when we are closed anyway. But after two weeks of that, the extra people (who were more of a hindrance than a help anyway) have gone, and we are back to a full six day week of 12 hour days. So as the daily tonnage has picked up considerably those of us left are much busier and happier, not only because of increased hours and income, but also because the day goes quicker.

Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will.
